Message to the world: “Have Faith in God. He will never leave you”

I was born here in Waco, TX. I didn’t grow up in a Christian home, though my family practiced Catholic traditions. My daughter was the one who first invited me to her church, and that was when I began to truly question and explore faith for myself. I was in my thirties when I decided to be baptized as a Christian, and that day changed everything.

Not long after, I lost both of my parents within a month of each other. The grief was overwhelming, and I found myself lashing out at others. My preacher told me one day, “You have to face reality. The good Lord took them for a reason, and it was just their time.” Those words stayed with me. They helped me start to trust God’s plan, even when I didn’t understand it.

I became homeless around that time, and for many years I’ve lived a simple life. Right now, I stay in a safe place that I have to myself where it’s quiet, and I keep to myself to avoid negative influences. Through it all, I’ve faced a lifetime of hardship—cancer, violent attacks, loss, and moments that could have easily broken me—but the Lord has always brought me through. There were times when doctors and people around me said I wouldn’t make it, but God reminded me that He wasn’t done with me yet. Every morning that I wake up, I thank Him for another day.

It was through this constant survival and grace that my faith grew. I started coming to Church Under the Bridge nearly thirty years ago when there were only a handful of us gathering under the bridge for food, prayer, and fellowship. I remember Jimmy being there from the very beginning, handing out sandwiches and offering kindness to anyone who showed up. Over the years, I’ve watched that small group grow into a community filled with love and hope. Church Under the Bridge has become my home—a place where I’ve found family, peace, and belonging.

Through my journey, I’ve learned that God never leaves you, even when life feels unbearable. There have been times when I could feel Him guiding me and keeping me safe. Once, while I was washing my clothes, a woman came up to me and said, “You have a good testimony.” Then she disappeared, and no one else had seen her. I believe she was an angel—a reminder that God was still writing my story and wanted me to share it with others. I have never shared this story before. Maybe with one or two other people before but never to a wider audience.

When I chose to be baptized, it wasn’t out of obligation—it was gratitude. After everything God had done for me, I wanted to give my life back to Him. Today, I’m at peace. I live quietly, take care of myself, and find joy in knowing that the Lord has carried me through everything I’ve faced.

If I could share one message with the world, it would be simple: Have Faith. Have Faith in God. When something happens to you, and you find yourself asking, “Why me, God?” remember that He’s already with you. I’ve been through the worst of the worst, and I’m still standing—not because of luck, but because of His grace.
